Mr J White
I attended St Patrick’s PS, Mayobridge where I was taught by the Poor Clare nuns. I went to St Colman’s College, Newry, before training to be a teacher in St Mary’s , Belfast. There I studied Computer Science with primary studies. I graduated in June 1987.
I was lucky to get a year post in Mayobridge with the P6 Class. The following year I went to St Paul’s Ps, Cabra where I taught P6/P7. After a change in the principalship of the school in 1992, I went to the P3-P5 class. During this time I studied part time and achieved a Masters Degree in Education Management in 1996.
I was successful on being appointed principal of St Michael’s in Sept 1996. At the time we were a 2.5teacher school. I took P5-P7, Miss Toner had P3/P4 and Miss Karen Stewart had P1-P2 with the infants being taught in the dinner hall. Numbers increased from 42 and the school appointed Mrs Crozier as a full time teacher, followed by the addition of a new mobile classroom, taking the school up to 3 teachers with 3 classrooms. I saw the extension of the offices, staffroom and storage room in 1998.
The school had a very successful DENI Inspection in 2002 and pupil numbers had increased to 56. I spent a few years as principal of a school closer to home and I took up the opportunity to return as Acting Principal during Mr Hart’s absence. I was offered the chance to lead the school and was appointed principal in 2015. Working closely with the staff we eagerly set about building a school which again could be confident of a long, bright future and to provide a high standard of education for the children of Clady.
