I attended Tannaghmore PS, Lurgan, St Patrick’s PS, Armagh then transferred to St Catherine’s College in Armagh. I attended the University Of Ulster Coleraine and completed my degree in Primary Education.
After graduating I began teaching in St Peter’s PS, Cloughreagh, this was a temporary position in primary four. I subbed in Darkley Primary School teaching primary 1 and 2 before applying for a position in St Brendan’s Primary School, Craigavon where I taught a primary 3 class for a number of years. I then moved to Tullygally PS, Craigavon and began special needs teaching working with autistic children and children with social and emotional problems.
In 2004 I applied for the post of special needs teacher in St Michael’s and was successful in my application. Soon after, I was appointed Special Needs Co-ordinator in the school. I worked alongside Mr Hart as his Principal Release teacher in Primary 5-7. In 2012 I was seconded from St Michael’s to work in the Southern Education and Library Board as an Assistant Advisory Officer in the Behaviour Support Team in Silverwood. In 2013 I returned to St Michael’s and began teaching in primary 1 and 2. I resumed my role as Senco and became Acting Vice Principal working alongside Miss Toner who became Acting Principal.
I began studying at Strandmillis College, Belfast in 2014 on a part time basis and gained Approved Teacher Status from The British Dyslexia Association having completed a BDA accredited Level 7 post graduate course and am competent in teaching those with Specific Learning Difficulties.
After taking a career break I am now teaching primary four and five.
